About

History

Established as a state-assisted university in 1964, Cleveland State University assumed a tradition of excellence when it adopted the buildings, faculty, staff, and curriculum of the former Fenn College, a private institution of 2,500 students that was founded in 1929.

Education

Academic Programs: More than 1,000 courses support 200 major fields of study at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as professional certificate and continuing education programs. The University also offers an Honors Program to academically talented and highly motivated students.

Library services

The C|M|LAW Library's superior research facility offers students access to electronic research services, a 50-seat computer lab, group study rooms, a research instruction room and a study center dedicated to Ohio legal materials, 200 carrels with built-in power and wireless access for laptop computers. 

ICT services

From the CampusNet, as a student you can add and drop classes, view and print your schedule, manage your account, request transcripts, forward your campus email, view grades, and more. As an instructor you can view your class rosters, process grade rosters, view your schedule, and view student information.

Medical services

In support of your success, the Department of Residence Life encourages you to take full responsibility for your health and understands access to health insurance is necessary to be able to do so. Therefore, each student living in a residence hall is required to provide proof of health insurance coverage prior to moving in.

Campus life

Cleveland State is a great metropolitan university located in the heart of downtown Cleveland. Only minutes away from a wealth of cultural institutions, professional sports teams and eclectic neighborhoods hosting special events ranging from arts-and-crafts fairs to food festivals, Cleveland State offers the opportunity to live, study, work and play in a vibrant downtown setting.

The Department of Student Life strives to provide a variety of quality services and programs to enhance the university experience and complements CSU's academic mission. A highly trained staff of professionals is available to support students from their first day on campus to the completion of their academic goals.

Sports facilities

NCAA Division I. Men’s basketball, fencing, golf, soccer, swimming, wrestling, tennis and lacrosse. Women’s basketball, cross-country, fencing, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, volleyball and golf. Colors: Forest green and white. Nickname: Vikings. Affiliations: Horizon League and Eastern Wrestling League.

Student clubs

Student Government Association, Student Bar Association, Campus Activities Board, student-run radio station (WCSB-FM), three student newspapers (The Cleveland Stater, The Cauldron and The Vindicator), Whiskey Island literary magazine, The Gavel law school publication, four fraternities, four sororities and approximately 200 student honorary, professional, cultural and social organizations.

Accreditation

Entire colleges and universities may hold accreditation by a regional accrediting body, such as the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).
