Middlesex University was first established as a University in 1992. Originating in the late 1880s when two technical colleges opened their doors in north London, the institutitons were merged in 1973 to form the University’s predecessor Middlesex Polytechnic. Middlesex was awarded the title ‘University’ by Royal Assent in 1992. It has four campuses in London, Dubai, Malta and Mauritius.
Middlesex University Dubai is one of the UAE’s leading providers of a UK degree. It is licensed by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority and has a 5-Star KHDA Higher Education Classification, demonstrating a world-class standard of education. KHDA’s University Quality Assurance International Board reviews all programmes to ensure the quality of teaching and learning is equivalent to those in London. The Dubai campus is an integral part of this review process. The programmes taught in Dubai have the same validation and monitoring system as in London, with the same examinations taken simultaneously in both cities. Students are awarded their degree certificate from Middlesex University in the UK.
Middlesex University Dubai has a lively, proactive research culture and community. Its Research Committee aims to develop and foster research that reflects and promotes faculty interests and aspirations, support student research, and establish innovative research partnerships. The University launched the Wednesday Research Seminar Series in 2008 and has featured more than 300 presentations to date. Student research is also one of the cornerstones of the academic community. The Student Research Sub-Committee (SRC) works to encourage, support and promote student research. Many students have won national and international research awards, co-authored journal articles and presented at academic conferences.

The Library offers two locations, millions of online and print resources, and knowledgeable and supportive staff. The Library provides the resources needed for each programme module via its substantial range of specialised print and e-book collections, online databases, and e-journals. There is also a dedicated Law Library and Silent Study area and printing, photocopying and scanning facilities.
The University provides various IT facilities and support services as part of its student learning resources. Students can bring their own device to campus and work in their own space by connecting to the University’s wireless network. Each computer lab is equipped with printers. The University also offers a free on-campus laptop loan service. IT support staff are available during office hours.
Middlesex University Dubai promotes the physical and emotional wellbeing of its students and staff. Medical insurance is provided as part of the student visa and can be used at a range of healthcare facilities around Dubai and the UAE. The Wellness Office promotes physical and mental wellbeing, offering counselling, learning disability support, campus events and activities and other services.
Middlesex University Dubai is located in Dubai Knowledge Park, offering state-of-the-art facilities with spacious classrooms and study areas across four buildings. Dubai Knowledge Park was set up in 2003 for international educational institutions. Located in the heart of Dubai near the city’s creative business hubs Media City and Internet City, the campus is also close to major landmarks and lively neighbourhoods such as Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina and the Burj Al Arab. Personally, I expected to learn the very basics of fashion design. However, in this university, they just made us do big projects which require basic knowledge. I also did not find the teaching very useful. I hardly learnt anything in my first year. There’s no time for extra curricular activities, becoz there’s more of self learning happening here which takes up the whole...
