The Rensselaer School was established in Troy, New York, in 1824 by Stephen Van Rensselaer, along with educator and scientist Amos Eaton, “for the purpose of instructing persons ... in the application of science to the common purposes of life.”

This is a 70% male engineering school, I was a minority here, a woman in a natural science and despite that I felt welcome. Grade deflation can be real, courses are tough, but without a doubt I would choose it again. The professors are helpful and many understand the rigor. However, it is also common to see students with below 3.0 gpa graduate with jobs. There's a plethora of hands on experience and many opportunities to independently grow. This is not an easy school to finish but it is worth it. The RPI name is known to many companies and the experience gained here is worth it.
