In 2014, York University created the School of Continuing Studies, one of the largest in Canada, and committed to becoming a leader in this field. Today, the School serves nearly 2,000 students through continuing professional education, pathways degrees and English language programs; drawing students from 50 countries. The School attracts international attention for its innovative program designs.
The School of Continuing Studies offers career-relevant certificates, degree-preparation courses, English as a Second Language and English for Academic Purposes, and facilitates degree completion pathways, which prepare students for the next stage in their academic and/or professional careers.
The School is designing new programs to maximize the likelihood of students landing jobs, excelling in their chosen field and earning promotions. As a newer School, we can design our programs for today’s employment needs; in fact, our program advisory committees comprise senior executives from many of Canada’s leading firms, and they have helped us to craft programs that prepare our students for excellence internationally.
Career success requires more than just specialized technical knowledge for a particular field. To excel, you must develop the competencies top employers tell us they value most, such as emotional intelligence, problem solving, verbal communications, business acumen, critical thinking and project management. The focus on these professional competencies throughout the School’s post-graduate certificates will improve your leadership strength and effectiveness.
“Our goal isn’t just to position our graduates to get hired, but to be able to demonstrate that they have what it takes to do more and to get promoted.”
