History
UNE was formed in 1938 as the New England University College, a College of the University of Sydney. The University became fully independent in 1954 and pioneered teaching to external students by correspondence, making UNE Australia's most experienced provider of distance and now online education.
Education
Their aim is to offer you the most flexible study options without losing any of the rigour required in a quality tertiary education. You can study on campus for a traditional face-to-face education experience, or from wherever you are; our new generation of online study is making tertiary education more accessible than ever.
Research
UNE’s research is benchmarked against international quality standards. This is assessed independently, through a national research evaluation program conducted every three years by the Australian Research Council, called Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA).
Career
- UNE provides a range of competitive benefits for its employees. Working at UNE provides advantages like competitive remuneration, up to 17% employer superannuation contributions and salary packaging.
- Staff are offered up to twelve months paid maternity leave, flexible family arrangements, excellent training and career advancement opportunities, study leave and much more.

Well-balanced study/work life
UNED (National Distance Education University) is an online university that has given me the freedom to study at my own pace while juggling my work and personal life, which I really appreciate. One of the best things about UNED is the flexibility it offers. I've been able to adapt my studies to my work schedule, ensuring I don't have to compromise on my job. Regarding the study program and assignments, I've found most of them to be quite manageable. UNED has provided good resources in most of the subjects and well-structured courses that made my learning journey approachable. However, there here have been times when I wished for more direct and constructive feedback from some tutors and teachers when I reached out for help. I believe that open communication and feedback are vital to a well-rounded learning experience, so it's an area where UNED could potentially improve to ensure students receive the guidance and support they need. In conclusion, UNED has been a fantastic platform that has given me the freedom to advance my education while balancing work and personal life. Most of the coursework and assignments have been well-structured and approachable. However, I'd encourage UNED to keep working on improving the level of engagement and support offered by tutors and instructors. UNED remains an innovative online education institution, and I'm grateful for the opportunities it's provided me during my academic journey.
