The mission of The University of Southern Mississippi Master of Science in Economic Development is to be the leading graduate program in the nation for educating US-based local/regional economic development practitioners who can wisely manage public-private investment collaborations to facilitate sustainable growth in the economy. Students should be prepared on the first day of work to add value to an economic development organization.

What Will I Learn?

Students learn data driven Economic Development including:

How to retain and expand businesses,
How to market a community to attract business and talent,
How to conduct strategic planning,
How to manage an economic development organization in a political environment,
How communities can reduce the time, costs, and risks for real estate development,
How to manage entrepreneurial and small business development programs, Ethical behavior in economic development, and more.

Admission is competitive and based on a holistic review of the applicant’s credentials by departments. The University sets minimum requirements for regular admission into graduate school, including:

Good standing at last university attended
Official transcripts and degree certificates or diplomas from all previous colleges or universities attended

Three letters of recommendation (upload to application file)
