Overview
As a graduate of this Kinesiology program at Indiana University Indianapolis, you'll come away with an in-depth, science-based understanding of the human body, its adaptations to physical activity, and how exercise and physical activity interventions can be prescribed to decrease risk for diseases related to sedentary living. You will be an expert on human movement and muscular control, including how to research, analyze, and interpret data in human performance.
We offer three tracks: a thesis track, anon-thesis track, and a Master of Science in Kinesiology with a Graduate Certificate in Public Health.
All tracks are designed to provide students with an in-depth, science-based understanding of the human body, its adaptations to physical activity, and how exercise/physical activity interventions can be prescribed to decrease risk for diseases related to sedentary living. You will explore human movement and muscular control, including how to research, analyze, and interpret data in human performance. You may choose from electives that cover cardiac assessment in exercise testing, muscle physiology, and advanced theories of high-level performance.

General requirements
- You should have a bachelor’s degree in physical education, exercise science, sports management, or a related area. If your bachelor’s degree is in an area unrelated to kinesiology, you can be considered for admission to the program if you complete additional undergraduate courses.
- Have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale).
- GRE scores are recommended as one component to strengthen the prospective student’s application.
- You will need three letters of recommendation that address your potential for academic success in a graduate program.
- You will submit a personal statement that addresses your professional experiences, personal goals, and career aspirations and how earning a master’s degree relates to each. This should be a one, double-spaced page and uploaded to the Indiana University Graduate CAS IUPUI application.
