Overview

A collaboration between Texas A&M’s College of Engineering, College of Medicine and the state’s top-ranked Houston Methodist Hospital, EnMed was established to transform health care through translational interdisciplinary research, the development of medical technologies and the development and training of “physicianeers,” a new kind of problem-solving doctor uniquely qualified to address some of health care’s greatest challenges.

Graduates of EnMed will earn their Doctor of Medicine degree from the College of Medicine and their Master of Engineering degree from the College of Engineering. The degree plan is focused on the design and implementation of medical technologies in the same four years through a revolutionary integrated curriculum.

Outcomes

The objective of the Engineering Medicine program at Texas A&M University is to provide students an opportunity to learn and practice the skills of engineering innovation, taking an idea from concept generation to prototype.

Students will learn about technology assessment, intellectual property, market analysis and product-to-market strategies. This knowledge will enable EnMed graduates to advance the areas of biomedicine and health.

Students may choose to focus their EnMed engineering degree on the development of a device, computer software, medical test, diagnostic process, treatment process, drug development or any other need that exists in the vast medical and pharmaceutical industries.

Along with meeting the requirements for the Texas A&M College of Medicine, students must also have completed a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, or similar discipline, and demonstrate experience in entrepreneurship or innovation.
One of the letters of recommendation required for admission would need to be from a faculty member in engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, or similar discipline.
