Overview
The Department of Pathology and Microbiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center hosts the Immunology, Pathology and Infectious Disease (IPID) Graduate Program, which is part of Integrated Graduate Program in Biomedical Science (IGPBS).
The IPID Program offers opportunities for graduate study in a wide range of contemporary areas of pathology and microbiology, including bacteriology, immunology, virology, cell biology, and molecular biology. We offer exceptional training leading to a MS, PhD, or combined MD/PhD degree.
Features
- The program also offers a non-thesis degree track in Clinical Laboratory Science. This MS program is intended for practicing, certified (preferred) or certification eligible clinical laboratory science professional interested in advancing their knowledge and skills in medical laboratory sciences.
- This program curriculum focuses on advanced clinical laboratory scientific principles and processes, management applications and communication skills, educational best practices, and research methods and practices within the clinical laboratory.
- In addition to required core courses, the program is individually structured to allow for concentrated areas of study including clinical chemistry, flow cytometry, immunohematology, microbiology, and molecular diagnostics. This degree track is completed on campus on a full or part-time basis.

General requirements
- For admission to the departmental graduate program, the applicant must have at least a Bachelor's degree in science with a broad background in biological sciences that also include courses in organic and quantitative (physical) chemistry, biochemistry, calculus, and physics.
- Official transcripts of all college work, undergraduate and graduate, from each school you have attended must be included with your application following instructions on Graduate Studies admissions web site. Recommended minimum GPA is 3.25 on a 4.0 grading scale.
- The GRE is not required for IPID applicants, both domestic and international. However, if an applicant chooses to submit GRE scores, the scores will be considered during application review.
- Written letters of recommendation (3 letters required), as well as personal motivation as judged by the student's own personal statement.
