Overview

The Childhood Education Teacher (1-6) Mathematics at The City University of New York prepares candidates to differentiate instruction to make mathematics accessible to all students.

The students understand how mathematics teaching is connected across curriculum strands, across other school subjects, and throughout all grade levels as well as to the uses and applications of mathematics in out-of-school contexts, and in family and community cultural resources.

Through collaborative action, teaching, and research, the program develops the students’ capacities to create socially just, intellectually vital, aesthetically rich, and compassionate communities that value equity and excellence, access, and rigor. This program has both online and in-person options.

Key Features

The mission is to prepare both practicing teachers and career-changers for effective classroom practice of diverse students in urban settings. The program will not only support you to gain New York State Certification, but will also provide you with both the analytical and practical skills to offer students. The graduates are hired by school districts, early childhood centers, and universities, both locally and nationwide.
