Special Education (Online) from Kansas State University prepares teachers for a career in special education and includes a cross-categorical program featuring two levels of specialization: high incidence special education and low incidence special education.


This program is designed for teachers interested in advancing their knowledge in the field of special education and for careers working as special education teachers serving students with high or low incidence needs. Graduates of this program work with students receiving special education through a variety of service delivery options (e.g., inclusion settings, resource programs and/or self-contained programs).

  • Successful teaching and/or other relevant experience
  • Relevant prior education equivalent to K-State's programs for certification to teach in elementary or secondary schools
  • Must be eligible for licensure in elementary or secondary education and have taken one of the following courses (or an approved equivalent course): EDSP 323 - Exceptional Student in the Secondary School, EDSP 324 - Exceptional Child in the Regular Classroom
  • Bachelor’s degree with a 3.0 minimum GPA in the final two years or approximately the last 60 credit hours
  • English Language Proficiency
