The K-12 Reading Specialist program is now delivered within a Master of Education in Reading. The 35-credit program emphasizes professional practice in the field of reading and addresses all International Reading Association standards for reading specialists and literacy coaches.

Overview

This completely online master’s program in reading meets South Dakota's standards to prepare reading specialists.

To meet national standards and give our students a competitive edge, the M.Ed in reading program focuses on comprehensive clinical components. These components encourage closer collaboration with partner school districts and facilitate additional application of student learning. As part of this program, you will be prepared to address the literacy needs of elementary, middle, and high school populations, as well as for leadership roles.

School districts are in need of exemplary reading teachers, school and district reading specialists, or literacy coaches. The US Department of Education and TEACH Grant have designated reading specialist as a high-need field.

GRE admission requirements GRE® The GRE® General Test is a widely administered admissions test that measures the skills needed in today's graduate and business school programs worldwide. It contains three sections - Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. Three scores are reported: a Verbal Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, a Quantitative Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, and an Analytical Writing score on a 0 - 6 score scale in half-point increments.
GMAT admission requirements GMAT The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a test intended to assess certain analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills in written English for use in admission to a graduate management program, such as an MBA. GMAT contains 4 sections - Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative and Verbal. The score has a range from 200 - 800.

PTE Academic admission requirements PTE Academic PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a language test that enables students to demonstrate their writing, listening, speaking, and reading skills when applying to study in English. The score refers to a total score which ranges between 10 and 90.

  • Apply online for admission to graduate studies. Submit completed application form and a $35.00 application fee. Request that an official undergraduate transcript showing your posted baccalaureate degree be sent from the institution that awarded the degree to BHSU Admissions, along with graduate transcripts if you wish to transfer graduate credit. You will receive an email from the Director of Graduate Studies regarding your acceptance.
