Overview
Completion of this Greek and Latin degree from Catholic University of America (or its approved equivalent from another institution) is a prerequisite for our department's Ph.D. program. With full-time study, this M.A. can be completed in two to three years, depending upon when a student elects to take comprehensive exams.
Comprehensive Examinations
Following a modern language exam in French or German and preliminary sight-translation exams in each language, the M.A. comprehensive exams include reading lists (translation exams) in Greek and in Latin, as well as essay exams on Greek and Roman literature and history.
