Overview
The goals of the Master of Business Administration at the University of Illinois Springfield are to:
- Introduce students to contemporary managerial theory and practice;
- Strengthen analysis, problem solving, and leadership skills; and
- Provide a basis for lifelong growth and development as professional managers.
Learning outcomes
Consistent with the career aspirations of our students, the MBA curriculum focuses on four objectives. Students shall:
- Understand key concepts and contemporary management theory and practice in the functional areas of business, including accounting, finance, information systems, marketing, operations management, organizational behavior, and research methods;
- Understand the importance and demonstrate the use of cross-functional approaches to solving organizational problems;
- Demonstrate disciplined managerial skills, including analysis, planning, and implementation, while considering the impacts of technology, globalization, emerging markets, and diversity in organizations;
- Build a foundation for constructive assessment and exercise of leadership, decision-making, team management, power, and communication skills.

General requirements
- A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater is preferred. GPAs below 2.0 will not be considered.
- Current resume.
- Official GMAT score
The cumulative GPA will determine the total GMAT score required. The GMAT will be waived if:
- The cumulative GPA is 2.5 or better, OR
- A previous master's degree (or higher) has been earned, OR
- A minimum of five years of supervisory and middle-professional experience is documented with three letters of reference and approved by an ad hoc committee of MBA faculty and the director.
Applicants must complete the following course work:
- introductory courses in financial and managerial accounting
- college math through business calculus
- principles of economics (micro and macro)
- statistics
