Education
The Aerospace Engineering programme from the University at Buffalo SUNY - School of Engineering and Applied Sciences is designed to prepare students to assume leadership positions in the aerospace industry and related industries.
This includes the traditional aeronautics and astronautics applications (subsonic and supersonic aircraft, satellites, space shuttle, space station, etc.) as well as aerospace-related component development (design of structures, devices and instruments), and vehicle and propulsion system design. A variety of industries appreciate and seek the talents of aerospace engineers.

Thesis
The thesis may cover a variety of activities, including theoretical and experimental investigations, practical design projects, and the like.
- Three people, qualified to render judgment in the area involved, constitute the thesis examination committee: the advisor plus two other faculty members. Non-MAE faculty can serve as a co-advisor or committee members, provided they have a Graduate School appointment.
- The candidate makes an oral presentation at which the examination committee is present in addition to other interested faculty and students.

In support of the University at Buffalo’s PhD Excellence Initiative, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences offers competitive, elite fellowship packages designed to attract the best and brightest scholars in the world.
The Presidential Fellowship offers outstanding prospective graduate students an elite fellowship package to the top 10% incoming enrolled doctoral students each academic year. This competitive package pays a stipend of up to $43,000 USD per year for up to 4 years and includes summer support. This award also includes a full tuition waiver of $11,310 USD for New York State Residents and $23,100 USD for Non-Residents bringing the total package of support to $54,310-$66,100 dollars per year.
