Overview

Welcome to the Graduate Programs at the Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering. The master's degree in Mechanical Engineering was authorized at Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) in 1922; the first degree was awarded in 1925. The doctoral program in mechanical engineering was established in 1946; the first Ph.D. in mechanical engineering was awarded in 1950. The first Ph.D. was awarded to a minority student in 1984 and the first Ph.D. in mechanical engineering was awarded to a woman in 1987.

General Requirements

  • Georgia Tech considers you an international applicant if you are neither a U.S. citizen nor a U.S. permanent resident, regardless of where in the world you live.  
  • The admissions criteria applied in evaluating international applicants are essentially the same as those for U.S. citizens. All application materials, including transcripts and recommendations, must be submitted online and in English. You are also required to submit an official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score.  
  • International and domestic candidates that have relocated to the state of Georgia for purposes of full-time employment, as well as their spouses, may qualify for a waiver of the non-Georgia resident.
