About

The Master of Arts in Psychology is designed to give students a broad background in the field of psychology plus a sufficient degree of specialization to prepare them for either careers or further graduate training.

Overview

Have you ever wondered why everyone stares at the numbers flashing by on a crowded elevator? Or why so many people are interested in celebrities and the tabloids? These everyday behaviors are what make the study of psychology so interesting. Psychology helps explain how the inner-workings of the brain manifest in our everyday life.As most people already realize, a large part of psychology is devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of mental health issues, but that’s just the beginning when it comes to the applications for psychology. In addition to mental health, psychology can be applied to a variety of issues that impact health and daily life including:

  • Emotions
  • Motivation
  • Development
  • Learning
  • Memory
  • Productivity
  • Happiness
  • Creativity
Because psychology is so diverse in its focus and research, it also prepares students for a wide variety of careers. It helps students develop universally useful skills like communication, critical-thinking, and a proficiency with statistics and data. So if you’re curious about why we do the things that we do and ready for a rewarding career, join us in the Department of Psychology.
