
Overview
The Ethnomusicology MA program from Arizona State University helps students develop skills in scholarship and performance experiences. Students choose to focus on traditional or popular music of one or more of the world's musical cultures. Students have opportunities to explore performance styles through participation in ethnomusicology ensembles such as Javanese gamelan, Latin marimba, mariachi, steel pan and African drumming.

General requirements
- Applicants must fulfill the requirements of both the Graduate College and the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts.
- Applicants are eligible to apply to the program if they have earned a bachelor's or master's degree, in any field, from a regionally accredited institution or from an international institution officially recognized by that country.
- Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (scale is 4.00="A") in the last 60 hours of their first bachelor's degree program, or applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (scale is 4.00="A") in an applicable master's degree program.
All applicants must submit:
- graduate admission application and application fee
- School of Music application (including a resume, personal statement and writing sample)
- three letters of recommendation
- official transcripts
- proof of English proficiency
