The Special Education Department at Portland State University is dedicated to preparing and supporting professionals to improve the educational outcomes and quality of life for all learners.

General requirements

  • Possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a cumulative undergraduate GPA of a least 3.0
  • Unofficial transcripts are accepted by the College of Education for the program application. You must submit transcripts for all institutions previously attended, regardless of whether you earned a degree or not. If admitted, you must send official transcripts to the Office of Graduate Admissions in order to register for classes.
  • Begin your personal statement
  • Prepare your résumé (reflect your volunteer or work experience within the related field)
  • Identify at least two people who can provide positive letters of recommendation for you. (Official instructions about the letter of recommendation will be provided as part of the new application process).
