Overview

The University of Kentucky’s Department of Geography is known for high quality research and education in human geography, physical geography, and mapping.

Set within the context of a traditional land grant research institution, the Department of Geography is very proud of its successes in graduate education over the years. The Department of Geography at the University of Kentucky has been identified as one of the top twenty academic programs at the University of Kentucky and, as part of a state effort to identify and enhance top research and graduate programs, has been designated a Research Challenge Trust Fund (RCTF) program.

Diversity in study

The clusters facilitate collaborative scholarship though they typically do not function as formal research teams. The clusters tend to work as loose and overlapping intellectual communities that can incorporate working groups, reading groups, and collaborative projects, and they give a sense of the breadth of the research conducted in the department.
