Description

For the 2026 Martingale Scholarships, they are offering select Masters and PhDs in the mathematical sciences, artificial intelligence, data science, engineering and biomedical research.

Eligibility

  • Have achieved, or be on track to achieve, a First or Upper-Second Class (or equivalent) in your most recent taught degree in a relevant subject.
  • Be eligible to commence a Masters or PhD degree at a UK university from September.
  • Qualify for Home Fee status at our partner universities.
  • Have been to school in the UK or Ireland for at least three years between the ages of 11 and 18; or if not, for at least seven years between the ages of 4 and 18.
  • Have completed your GCSEs or equivalent at a state-funded school, or received a scholarship or bursary covering least 90% of fees to attend a fee-paying school or college.
  • Have faced or are facing financial barriers, including having a household income of £45,000 or under.

If successful, Qualified Candidates will then apply directly to one or more partner universities for an eligible course.

Funding allocation 

For Masters Scholarships: If you receive an offer from one or more eligible courses, you will be invited to submit your university and course preferences to Martingale. The Martingale Foundation will use your preferences to allocate funded places to successful Qualified Candidates, and to place a group of Martingale Scholars at each of our partner universities.  

For PhD Scholarships: Universities will make offers of Martingale PhD places directly to Qualified Candidates at their discretion, from the pool of candidates who have applied to them. Please note that there is a fixed number of Martingale PhD places at each partner university.
