Overview
During the Biomedical Sciences Management MSc programme at Leiden University you will be trained to become an independent researcher in the field of biomedical sciences. The common part of the programme for all students of MSc Biomedical Sciences consists of a 20-week research traineeship, a number of theoretical and thematic (Frontiers of Science) courses, a course on how to write a research proposal, a course on clinical research in practice and a course on scientific conduct. In addition, the Research specialisation further prepares you for a career as a biomedical researcher. You will take a course in Laboratory Animal Science and conduct a second major research project of about 28 weeks, either at Leiden University Medical Center or elsewhere in the Netherlands or abroad. In total, you will spend two years (120 EC) on state of the art biomedical courses and doing a great deal of research yourself. The Biomedical Sciences Research Programme offers you a broad education, but also allows you to focus on a specific scientific area. Specific tracks, linked to the LUMC research profile areas, provide this focus: Neurosciences, Immunity, Infectious Disease and Tolerance, and Cancer Pathogenesis and Therapy and Epidemiology.
The two-year Biomedical Sciences Management at Leiden University specialisation enables you to develop knowledge and insight of, and opinions on a career outside scientific research. The programme, called Science Based Business (SBB) broadens your perspective in the field of management (e.g. marketing, finance, project management). Yet, you will also be equipped to pursuit a career within scientific biomedical research.
