An academic institution since the 19th century it officially became a university in 1992. The present Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bob Cryan, took over the job in January 2007. At the time, he was the youngest Vice-Chancellor in the UK. His strategy for the university during this time has been to lead an "inspiring, innovative University of international renown".

The Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) shows that the University of Huddersfield’s teaching staff are the best qualified in England across a range of measures. 94 percent of lecturers hold specific teaching qualifications, 96 percent of lecturers have higher education academic qualifications, the highest percentage in the country, and 77 percent of those hold doctorates (HESA, 2022).
Huddersfield has a well-established Research Excellence Framework as the university submitted 589 staff across nineteen Units of Assessment (UoA) to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021, receiving outstanding results. It has climbed more than seventeen places since 2014 to rank within the top 50 institutions in the UK. Two-thirds of its research portfolio is world-leading, and it sits within the top 20 universities for increasing research power. Small university so provides lots of support and one to one aid with students. Staff in sport department are incredible. There is food areas and cafes in the local area such as greggs, spoons and subway. Living costs in this town are cheap.
Overall it is value for your investment. A wise decision.
Good university with great facilities. Teaching staff in the psychology department are helpful and knowledgeable, however staff turnover seems high. Library facilities are good, however opening hours are not 24 hours which isn't ideal. Good range of societies and social events are very good for such a small town.
