Founded in 1863, it is the largest school of Architecture, Design and Engineering in Italy, with 2 main campuses located in Milan, heart of fashion and design industries, and 5 campuses based around the Lombardy region, one of the most industrialized areas of Europe. Politecnico di Milano is organized into 12 Departments, responsible for planning of the  research  strategies, and 4  Schools, responsible for the organization of education, 2 of  them covering  the  fields of Engineering, 1 focused on Architecture, Urban Planning and Construction Engineering, and 1 School devoted to Design.

Thanks to a strong internationalization policy, several study programmes are taught entirely in English, attracting an ever-increasing number of talented international students, now forming a diverse community from more than 100 countries. In the academic year 2015/2016, 22% of the students enrolled in Master of Science Programmes were international.


Teaching is closely related to research, a key commitment that enables to achieve results of high international standards, while creating connections with the business world.

Strategic research is carried out mainly in the fields of energy, transport, planning, management, design, mathematics and natural and applied sciences, ICT, built environment, cultural heritage, with more than 250 laboratories, including a Wind Tunnel (unique in the world for configuration and features), a Crash Test Centre, PoliFAB (the University’s lab for micro and nano production) and PoliFactory, a laboratory where new design processes are developed.


The Career Development Office offers to MIP Master students services aimed at developing their career path and enhancing their professional network.

Student services

The International Student Office(ISO) provides the following services:

  • University Enrollment
  • Pre-departure briefing and orientation session upon arrival
  • Guidance on how to arrange housing at Politecnico residences or at other residences in agreement with MIP
  • Advise on private accommodation with referrals
  • Counselling on permit of stay application and renewal 
  • Legal documents for staying in Italy: fiscal code (tax/social security number); registration at Milan municipality; enrolment in the National Health Care System
  • Bank account
  • Counselling related to emergencies and unexpected immigration problems 

Housing services

Securing accommodation is one of the most important aspects of your time in Milan. Finding the right place at a price that is suitable for you, means you will avoid unnecessary worry and will be able to devote more time to your studies. 

Many accomodation providers offer a variety of rooms and apartments types, with both shared and single bedroom options. Students looking to keep the costs of living down should consider a shared room option.

The Politecnico di Milano Library Services comprise online resources and several libraries located in the different campuses. Exchange students can obtain access by requesting a temporary card.

I've started studying at Politecnico di Milano, and I have really enjoyed the city, university and my experience till now!

The course is very interesting, all professors are top qualified, however some of them lack proper knowledge delivery skills. University facilities are very good, not much facilities for social life.
