Life began for Southern Connecticut State University on September 11, 1893, when three teachers and 84 students met at the old Skinner School in New Haven to create a two-year teacher training school, New Haven State Normal School. By 1937, Southern had grown into a four-year college with the power to grant bachelor's degrees.
Southern Connecticut State University is pleased to announce that grants for the Summer 2017 and Fall 2017 semesters are available to support independent undergraduate research. This initiative, Undergraduate Research Grants, is funded by the SCSU Foundation.
The members of the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs assist the Vice President for Student Affairs with projects and initiatives designed to enhance student success. They also serve as a sounding board for student ideas, needs and issues and as advisers to committees and major student governing groups. Hilton C. Buley Library serves the many academic and research needs of the Southern community. The library maintains over 100 databases and electronic collections, and houses over half a million items including books, serials and serial back files, microforms, maps, government documents, rare books, video media, and more.
Southern has one campus in New Haven, bordering parts of Hamden, Connecticut. Fitch Street separates the academic and residential sections of the campus.
We're conveniently located on the 2nd floor of the Adanti Student Center. Our facility has a large selection of cardiovascular machines, free weights, selectorized equipment, plate-loaded equipment and equipment for check out.
