About

History

On March 6, 1903, Governor Willis J. Bailey signed a Kansas Senate bill that authorized the establishment in Pittsburg of a school that would prepare teachers of the manual and domestic arts. Public secondary schools in Kansas faced a growing demand for practical course work that prepared youth not for college, but for the changing job market, and qualified teachers were not readily available.

Research

PSU Research and Grants Administration seeks to enhance discovery and research at Pittsburg State University by assisting faculty, staff and students in developing research activities, searching for external funding opportunities and assisting with the development and submission of funding proposals.

Career

Each year Career Services conducts a survey of the graduating class to learn more about the career choices made by Pittsburg State University graduates. The survey period lasts up to six months after the graduation date for the class. This survey assists Career Services in assessing the initial salary levels offered in various fields and in various cities.

The mission of the Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) is to assist a diverse student population in obtaining financial aid to support their educational endeavors through accurate, courteous and timely service. 

Housing services

The  Center for Student Accommodations (CSA) provides support services to currently enrolled PSU students with disabilities which substantially impairs one or more major life activities.  Disabled students may qualify for services that accommodate for their impairments and provide equal access to educational opportunity.

ICT services

Pittsburg State University has a diverse support structure in place to serve the faculty, staff, and students. The office of Information Services, Technical Consultants, Instructional Support Consultants, and Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology work in a cooperative environment to provide service to all the clients at PSU. 

Medical services

Students who are not already covered by accident and hospitalization insurance are encouraged to purchase the optional group student health insurance which is a state approved plan designed for all Regents' Schools in Kansas, United Healthcare Student Resources.

Campus life

You’ll find the atmosphere of Pittsburg State University’s campus is unlike any other you’ve experienced. Academics, student activities and social events come together to create an exciting and engaging student experience.  University housing is conveniently located in the heart of campus, providing easy access to your classes as well as athletic and student activities. Our safe and secure halls are locked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and only accessible to hall residents and their guests.

Sports facilities

The Department of Campus Recreation contributes to the PSU experience by providing comprehensive recreation programs and facilities which foster self-discovery, learning, responsibility, engagement, sportsmanship and an appreciation for personal wellness.

Student clubs

There are over 150 student-run clubs and organizations, organized around interests that range from Frisbee to music and fishing. Fraternities and sororities enliven campus life and students from 40 countries lend an international atmosphere to campus. Celebrations showcasing other cultures are popular campus events.
