Overview

Graduates of the Nursing practitioner program at Michigan State University will be able to provide primary care and assess the physical, socio-emotional, and developmental states of individual clients and their families, analyze health behavior, apply clinical judgment, and intervene in a manner to improve the quality and effectiveness of health care delivery.

The convenient MSN and DNP hybrid programs minimize the amount of times you need to come to campus, and we also assist with clinical placements.

Concentrations

Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner

In this concentration, you will focus on providing care to those ages 13 and up, with a focus on providing care for frail, vulnerable adults. Nurse practitioners are in a direct-care provider role, and use specialty skills and knowledge in providing care to clients in a variety of primary care settings.

Family Nurse Practitioner

In this concentration, you will focus on providing care from newborns to senior citizens. Nurse practitioners are in a direct-care provider role, and use specialty skills and knowledge in providing care to clients of all ages and stages of development in primary care settings.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

In this concentration you will address the behavioral needs of patients, as well as the shortage of qualified professionals throughout the country to assess and treat those with mental health needs. You will build knowledge and skills in areas of mental health promotion, mental illness, and substance use disorder prevention, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and patient education in the care of individuals across the lifespan.

Hold bachelor’s in nursing from an accredited college or university.
Possess current unrestricted license to practice nursing as a registered nurse in applicant’s state.
Minimum grade-point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale) for total credits completed during the second-half of the four-year baccalaureate nursing program.
Submit a written essay that addresses the applicant’s career goals and motivations for graduate study in the selected area of specialty nursing practice.
Submit three letters of recommendation.
