About

The Higher Education - Management and Organizations program at the University of Michigan considers the organizational dynamics of colleges and universities. This requires a fundamental understanding of the internal workings of higher education and its environment, as well as a thorough grasp of effective management and leadership of higher education organizations.

Overview

In the Higher Education - Management and Organizations program at the University of Michigan, you will explore the administration, governance, management, leadership, organizational strategy, planning and budgeting, and institutional research and assessment of postsecondary educational organizations.

Education

Students develop a view of postsecondary education institutions as complex organizations. This includes their socio-political, economic, and global context, as well as their internal dynamics and functioning.

Students gain a strategic perspective that helps them effectively understand the larger picture of postsecondary education, anticipate change, and inspire others to higher performance.

Students often pursue careers in administration, including academic affairs, administration and finance, planning, institutional advancement, student affairs, or external relations.

You will be paired with an advisor from among the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education (CSHPE) faculty members, based on shared professional interests. Students and advisors work together to develop a plan of study that is appropriate to the student’s background and career interests.
