The basic purpose of the Master of Science degree in Human Resource Management offered by University of Texas Arlington is to provide students with both a general knowledge of business and a specialized knowledge in human resource management. 


The Master of Science degree in Human Resource Management offered by University of Texas Arlington is designed primarily for the student who has a bachelor's degree in business administration. A minimum of 30 semester hours is required if the student chooses to write a thesis. If the student chooses not to write a thesis, a minimum of 36 semester hours is required. Students who do not have bachelor's degrees in business administration may have to take additional course work (up to 18 semester hours) to acquire sufficient general business knowledge for effective performance as a human resource executive.

Course work for the program includes 18 hours of required work in human resource management, 6 hours of required work in research and statistical methods, 3 hours of strategic management, and thesis or elective hours in related management courses to complete the 30- or 36-hour requirements.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

    The GRE® General Test is a widely administered admissions test that measures the skills needed in today's graduate and business school programs worldwide. The GRE® General Test contains three sections - Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. Three scores are reported: a Verbal Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, a Quantitative Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, and an Analytical Writing score on a 0 - 6 score scale in half-point increments.

    The GMAT - or Graduate Management Admission Test - is a frequent requirement for admission at management and business schools across the world. The GMAT score ranges between 200 and 800 and measures the verbal and quantitative reasoning of test-takers.

General Requirements

  • An undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale, as calculated by Graduate Admissions, is typical of a successful candidate. 
  • GMAT sub scores (verbal and quantitative) are also considered in the admission decision. A GMAT total score greater than 500 is typical of a successful candidate.
  • A GRE quantitative percentile greater than 50% and Verbal percentile greater than 50% is typical of a successful applicant.
  • Grades in specified undergraduate business and non-business courses (math, accounting, economics, statistics, for example).
  • Educational objectives and quality of written expression of the 200 word application essay.
  • Letters of recommendation from three persons.
