The Thesis Master’s program in Computer Engineering from Florida International University consists of 24 semester credit hours of course work, a minimum of 6 semester credit hours of Master’s Thesis and a final oral examination that includes an oral defense of the thesis.


Students in the Master’s program in Computer Engineering at Florida International University, may choose the non-thesis option for their master’s degree. The requirements differ from the thesis option in one aspect. The student must either:

  • Complete 27 credits of coursework approved by their advisor and successfully finish EEL 6916 Graduate Project with at least a ‘B’; or
  • Complete 30 credits of coursework approved by Graduate Program Director.

  • Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, physical sciences, computer science or mathematics from an accredited institution or a bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of one year work experience in electrical engineering, computer engineering or technology.
  • Applicant must have a GPA score of 3.0 or higher in upper level undergraduate work.
  • Applicants from science areas other than electrical or computer engineering will be expected to complete sufficient background material at the undergraduate level prior to unconditional acceptance into the graduate program.
