Overview
The New England Conservatory of Music Collaborative Piano program offers the instruction of world-renowned artist-teachers from NEC’s departments of strings, woodwinds, and voice through collaboration projects and work assistantships. Through daily study in performance classes, private lessons, and coachings, students gain greater familiarity with standard vocal and instrumental repertoire and develop the skills to be professional collaborative artists
Key facts
- The program selects graduate-level pianists with special interests and skills in various collaborative areas, and we find unique opportunities for each student to deepen their knowledge and prepare them for the professional world.
- Due to the small teacher-to-student ratio, each student receives close mentorship from a team of leading specialists in art song, chamber music, and opera. Weekly individual lessons and private coachings with members of the Collaborative Piano faculty and a rotating array of repertoire and performance courses are offered alongside additional coachings with NEC’s unrivaled roster of artist-faculty in the instrumental and vocal departments.
- The recently developed Song Lab is an example of the innovative approach that the school allows us to take in providing practical training and immersive educational experiences to the students.
- The long-running Sonata Nights concert series and the NEC Liederabend series exemplify the many performance opportunities the pianists have. Since the department operates closely with almost every other department in the conservatory, the students have reaped the benefits of a rich network of opportunities and artistic experiences.
