The Master of Arts in Teaching - Special Education Teaching program from University of North Carolina Greensboro is set up as a cohort model in which you take all of your classes as a team. This online M.A.T. program is designed to provide initial teacher licensure in Special Education: General Curriculum to individuals who have an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited university in a field other than education and desire to work in K-12 classrooms. Throughout their online coursework, students have numerous opportunities to use cases and problem-based learning that includes appropriate implementation of evidence-based practices. Additionally, students are required to pass the Praxis.

Upon successful completion of the program, candidates are prepared to teach students with disabilities who are following the general curriculum in a variety of inclusive settings. Example careers include special education teacher, inclusion specialist, and resource teacher.

Per UNC Policy 700.5.1[R], the UNC system requires all applicants to answer questions regarding community standards/campus safety questions.

In addition to the application materials required by The Graduate School, applicants must submit a current resume, three letters of recommendation (on official letterhead), official transcripts, and Personal Statement of Purpose (goals, past experience, and unique skills).
