By the end of the School Counseling and Bilingual School Counseling program delivered at New York University, you will be able to:
- Build healthy, trusting, and helpful relationships between you and pre-K–12 students, as well as their teachers, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders, and adapt your practice to your students’ developmental needs.
- Assess students based on socio-historical contexts and pay close attention to issues of power and privilege triggered by gender, race and ethnicity, class, religion, sexual orientation, and language abilities.
- Create and deliver a data-driven school counseling program that supports every student’s academic, career, personal, and social development.
Careers and Outcomes
Graduates are prepared to support students throughout their development in accordance with the American School Counselor Association National Model.
- As an elementary school counselor, you will create a nurturing environment in which children develop the knowledge, habits, and emotional skills they need to succeed in their personal, emotional, social, academic and career development.
- As a middle school counselor, you will provide academic and emotional support to younger adolescents as they approach puberty and early adulthood.
- As a high school counselor, you will guide older adolescents toward emotional, academic, and professional wellbeing and success as they prepare for college, the workforce, and quality of life.
