Overview

The Mathematics Education program places a strong emphasis on mathematics content and the role of mathematical thinking in the teaching and learning of math.

Normally the Mathematics Education program at Columbia University for the Master of Science (M.S.) degree should include 42 points of courses in mathematics and mathematics education within the minimum requirement of 60 points.

Both the Ed.M. and M.S. programs require 60 credits and involve extensive preparation in mathematics education. For the M.S. degree there is greater emphasis on preparation in mathematics content. In the Ed.M. degree there is greater emphasis on preparation in professional education.
