Overview
Our program at Marymount University combines real-world experience, research, theoretical application, and the tools and resources to ready the next generation of Special Education teachers for rewarding academic careers.
Careers
Marymount’s Special Education degree program fully prepares you to teach in preschools, elementary, and secondary schools as a K–12 special education teacher in Virginia.
Marymount’s Special Education master’s program also qualifies you for employment in a variety of careers throughout Maryland, Virginia, and the Washington, D.C., area.
The job outlook for special education professionals is especially strong. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects an 8% job growth rate for special education teachers between now and 2029. The special education profession should see 14,300 new special education jobs in that time frame.
Courses are offered in late afternoons or early evenings, in a hybrid format, or fully online.
Most students complete the licensure program in just 2 years, and some finish in as little as 12 months.
