Overview

The Mathematics Education programme at California State University Long Beach empowers educators to create a math classroom that sparks curiosity and fosters understanding and fluency in mathematics learning by relying on most current culturally relevant research and practices.

Specifically, candidates learn to assess students’ diverse learning needs, provide targeted support to struggling learners in achieving mathematics proficiency, integrate technology into mathematics instruction, and develop engaging mathematics curriculum for a wide range of K-8 learners.

Design various assessments, and interpret and use assessment results for planning and teaching mathematics

Apply research-based instructional strategies in teaching

Integrate contemporary technologies in mathematics planning, teaching, and assessment

The following are required for admission to the programme:

Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.

Credentialed classroom teachers who completed an accredited post-baccalaureate credential programme (Pathway 1) OR by consent of programme coordinator (Pathway 2).

Minimum 2.85 overall grade point average in last degree (not credential or certificate) earned from an accredited institution of higher education.
