Overview

Develop knowledge and skills to evaluate the role of communication in health-related contexts. Our program examines communication issues that exist between and among patients, providers and family members; how the media influences health decision making; the effects of organizational structures in health communication; the creation and dissemination of health information; and multiple influences of culture on health communication.

Communication, M.A. degree graduates integrate communication theory and research into practice and influence the direction of the field of health communication.

A bachelor's degree in communication or a related field from an accredited institution
A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate coursework
Three letters of recommendation
A statement of purpose outlining the applicant's academic and professional goals, and how the MA program will help achieve those goals
A writing sample, such as a research paper or essay, that demonstrates the applicant's writing skills and ability to conduct research
A resume or CV detailing work experience, research experience, and other relevant activities
A minimum score of 297 on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), with a score of at least 146 on the verbal section and 151 on the quantitative section
