Overview
Training in Oral Medicine combines elements of both dental and medical education to enable graduates to provide holistic care for patients with orofacial disorders, oral manifestations of systemic disease, orofacial complications of medical therapies, and other medical complexities that affect the delivery of traditional dental care.
Program Goals
The primary goal of the post-graduate program at the University of Washington is to develop oral medicine specialists with expertise in scientific methodology, clinical diagnosis, and therapeutic management of orofacial disorders who are capable of pursuing careers in academics, research, and specialty practice.

General requirements
- Applicants must have either a Bachelor’s in the life sciences (e.g. Microbiology or Biochemistry) or a professional degree from a Dental or Medical School.
- We seek applicants who show great promise of successful careers in research with an interest in teaching.
- Our applicants typically have strong undergraduate records as well as previous laboratory experience and demonstrated skills in life sciences or public health research.
- A minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for the last graded 60 semester credits or 90 graded quarter credits
- Demonstrated English Language proficiency.
- Three letters of recommendation.
- A 200-300 word statement of your educational and professional objectives which includes a general area of research interests, academic goals, motivation, and background.
- A Biographical Sketch which is a CV/resume.
- Unofficial transcripts should be uploaded into the graduate application.
