Overview
Elementary Education with Mathematics Education Specialist Endorsement from Old Dominion University is offered in partnership with the College of Sciences, Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
Outcomes:
- Program is designed for teachers with a strong interest in teacher leadership and mathematics and at least three years of successful teaching.
- Program has a strong emphasis on studying K-8 mathematics to improve mathematical understanding and making connections within and across grade levels. Program affords learner–centric “doing” and teaching of mathematics to develop pedagogical and andragogical approaches for facilitating learning.
- Program develops teacher leaders who value diverse learners and support their ways of knowing by using equitable approaches that utilize the mathematics process and practice standards to reach ALL learners.

General requirements
- Have 3 years of successful classroom experience in teaching mathematics;
- Hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university;
- Hold the Virginia Collegiate Professional License or an equivalent license from another state.
- Have an undergraduate grade point average of 2.80 and an average of 3.00 in the major;
- Achieve a satisfactory score (as established by the Department of Educational Curriculum and Instruction) on the Graduate Record Examination or the Miller Analogies Test; and
- Submit an application for graduate studies.
