Overview
Students aspiring to pursue a career in medicine may require additional skill-building experience and enhanced knowledge of learning strategies with the Master of Medical Science at Indiana University Indianapolis.
This unique opportunity allows students to work at the graduate level to gain experience in didactic instruction, problem-based learning and research. A Master of Science degree is earned upon completion of the program with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Students within the program may choose to apply to medical school during their first or second year in the program, but only students who complete the full two-year academic curriculum will earn the MSMS degree.
This program does not guarantee admission into IU School of Medicine as a medical student. The pre-application screening is available to all interested applicants, however, the opportunity to submit an official application for the program is by invitation only.

General requirements
- Complete a four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in the United States by date of matriculation
- Achieve a minimum undergraduate cumulative and science GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Complete all premedical science requirements, including:
- One year of general biology, general/inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and physics with a minimum of two laboratory credit hours in each course
- One semester of biochemistry (not required but strongly recommended)
- One course in social science (i.e. Sociology)
- One course in behavioral science (i.e. Psychology)
