Overview
The Master of Science in Athletic Training is built around 60 credit hours of required clinical and classroom coursework to satisfy: the program’s accreditation requirements set forth by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE); and for the student to meet eligibility requirements to sit for the Board of Certification, Inc (BOC) examination and state licensure requirements to practice as an athletic trainer upon graduation.
Our diverse curricular experience, within an active learning environment and access to the most advanced sports medicine resources, offers students the opportunity to complete one of the most rigorous programs in the country. The academic and clinical experiences of this program, including longtime relationships with LSU's Athletic Department, area high schools, professional sports teams, hospitals, and physician's offices, provide students opportunities to be future leaders in healthcare.
Program Learning Outcomes
Just as important as the opportunity to become dual credentials, Louisiana State University’s MSAT offers graduate students the ability to:

General requirements
- A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university.
- Minimum of 290 GRE* score. (*GRE is not required for any student who has above a 3.2 GPA Last 60 Hours and a 3.2 GPA Prerequisite Coursework; see Admission Scoring for more information)
- Acceptance to the LSU Graduate School.
- Meet the technical standards for admission or show potential for accomplished tasks. The technical standards are available on the program’s website and made available in the ATCAS application system.
- Completion of minimum of 75 hours of observational professional experiences under a BOC credentialed athletic trainer and/or physician (at least 50 hours must be under the BOC credentialed athletic trainer).
