Overview

Students with a research director from the College of Engineering are required to complete a minimum of 12 hours of physics course work and nine hours of engineering course work. Students with a research director in the Homer L. Dodge Department of Physics and Astronomy are required to complete a minimum of nine hours of physics course work and 12 hours of engineering course work is required. All students must complete at least one three-hour math course numbered 4000 or higher. (Note: Students cannot receive graduate credit for any course equivalent to one required in the undergraduate Engineering Physics Program.)

The engineering physics faculty has active research programs in the growth of electronic materials, characterization and device fabrication, scanning probe microscopy, high-field magneto transport and magneto-optics, laser applications in chemical reaction dynamics, Bose-Einstein condensation of atomic gases, atomic beam etching, microelectronic applications in particle physics, and device simulation and computational physics.

Careers

The mission of the Engineering Physics Program from University of Oklahoma is to prepare students for careers in areas of technology where the disciplines of physics and engineering intersect. The Program provides an interdisciplinary environment where pure and applied science merge. The curriculum is designed to develop sufficient depth in both engineering skills and physics knowledge to produce engineers who are able to relate fundamental physical principles to practical problems in engineering.
