About World Languages Education at The University of Iowa

The Master of Arts in Teaching in teaching and learning with a world language education subprogram requires a minimum of 54 s.h. of graduate credit. Students must maintain a program g.p.a. of at least 3.00.

The program is designed for superior liberal arts and sciences graduates who have had few or no professional education courses. Successful completion of the program leads to elementary and/or secondary teacher licensure. The M.A.T. is available in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Latin, Russian, and Spanish languages.

General requirements

A U.S. bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university, or an equivalent degree from another country as determined by the Office of Admissions.

A minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00, or the foreign equivalent as determined by the Office of Admissions.

English Proficiency Requirements

You must first submit the online application to the Graduate College and pay the $60 application fee by credit card ($100 for international applicants).

A Teacher Education Program Application

All materials must be submitted in English.

Two letters of recommendation

A set of your unofficial academic records/transcripts uploaded on your Admissions Profile.

Once recommended for admission, international students must send a Financial Statement.
