Overview
The goal of the program is to provide students with expertise in high-demand sectors of the financial labor market, including:
- Risk Management
- Quantitive Investing
- Model Development
Only a small number of the financial industry workforce has the quantitative skills required to succeed in these jobs, giving our graduates an enormous competitive advantage on the job market. In addition, it also serve as a preparation for a PhD in Finance.
Goals
The Master of Science in Quantitative Finance program at Texas A&M University was developed in direct response to demand from employers in the financial industry for employees with strong quantitative skills.
Areas such as hedge fund analysis, risk and portfolio management, and quantitative trading require sophisticated mathematical tools such as numerical analysis, optimization, and stochastic differential equations that are generally taught in math departments rather than in finance departments.
The rationale behind the MSQF program has been to design a slate of math courses specifically intended to prepare students for applications to quantitative finance.
