The department has research programs in the areas of parasitic, viral, and opportunistic infections; bacterial pathogenesis and genomics; inflammation and immunology; and drug development driven by investigators with national and international reputations and with extended histories of extramural funding from the NIH, as well as other sources of funding.

An integrated curriculum composed of courses covering essentials for biomedical research and courses on molecular pathogenesis that emphasize host-pathogen interactions — including viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites — as well as immunology. Upon completing Microbiology and Immunology at Drexel University, students pursue careers in academic, governmental, or industrial settings.
