Program Mission

The goals of the Elementary Education (Teacher Fellows) program from Texas State University address the needs of beginning teachers, experienced teachers, the university, and the participating school district. The goals include:

supporting classroom-based inquiry focused on improved teaching and learning
providing continuous professional learning opportunities for beginning teachers, mentors, and university faculty
building collaboration between the school district and university to bridge the gap between theory and practice
deepening the knowledge and skills of beginning teachers through advanced course work and on-site mentoring support to improve expertise and increase retention
assisting beginning teachers in creating environments promoting student learning and positive social interactions

Career Options

Since 1994, approximately 400 new teachers have participated in the program. Participating school districts include Hays CISD, Leander ISD, and Round Rock ISD.
