Overview

Upon completion of the Teaching Dance, Grades K-12, Initial Certification MA program from New York University, you’ll be eligible for New York State initial certification as a teacher of dance, all grades (pre-K–12), with reciprocity in numerous other states.

What you'll learn

Designed to be completed in two years of full-time study, this program enables you to learn:

How to create and implement pre-K–12 sequential dance programs in public and independent schools
How to plan, implement, and assess dance education in diverse urban settings
Research in dance education, technique and pedagogy, teaching creative movement, and theory and philosophy of dance education

Graduates are research-informed and proficient teachers with a complete understanding of urban school systems and the role of dance education within them.
