Key Facts

The School of Music features a thriving chamber music program, directed by FIU’s Ensemble-in-Residence, the Banff Award-winning Amernet String Quartet, which affords students an array of performance opportunities both on and off campus. Additionally, frequent master classes and workshops given by distinguished visiting artists are an integral part of the program.

Graduates of the Instrumental Performance - Strings Studio program at Florida International University have gone on to careers as internationally recognized and award-winning chamber musicians, orchestral players, soloists, teachers and directors of performing arts organizations.

The FIU Symphony Orchestra, under the leadership of Maestro Javier Jose Mendoza, gives many performances spanning baroque though contemporary repertoire featuring guest artists and students as soloists.

A repertoire list
A brief biography
A video of at least five minutes in length demonstrating your playing in contrasting styles/works.

Audition repertoire for violin, viola, cello, harp and double bass:

One movement of any solo work by Bach
One movement of a standard concerto or concert piece
Scales and arpeggios in three octaves

Audition repertoire for contrabass:

Prepare scales and arpeggios in three octaves and a work on the level of the Eccles sonata, the Dragonetti concerto, the Hindemith sonata, or the Koussevitzky concerto. In addition, applicants may be required to play and/or sight read orchestral excerpts to demonstrate knowledge of standard orchestral repertoire.
