The School of Music at Florida International University offers a Master of Music degree with a concentration in conducting in the following areas: choral, orchestral, and wind.
The Conducting - Instrumental program provides an education in the arts enabling FIU’s conductors and musicians to assume leadership roles as professional conductors, performers and educators and to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century with flexibility and ingenuity.
Each candidate will have a large number of conducting opportunities with the Symphonic Band, Chamber Winds and Wind Ensemble, with close observation and mentorship from Dr. Alston and Professor Bernhardt. Graduates of the FIU Wind Conducting Program hold positions in some of the finest High School and University Band Programs in the country.
Vision and Mission
The Florida International University School of Music serves over 300 music majors from eighteen countries with twenty-two full-time faculty and thirty adjunct faculty members. FIU offers the Bachelor of Music degree with concentrations in string, vocal, wind, brass, percussion, and keyboard performance; composition; jazz performance; music technology; and Music Education. Graduate programs include the Master of Music in composition, conducting, jazz, music technology, and performance. FIU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the School of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).
