Overview

As part of your graduate studies, at the Teaching English - Transformational Teaching, Grades 7–12, Initial Certification MA program from New York University, you'll take core methods courses that link theory to practice and focus on issues related to the teaching of English, such as the teaching of reading and writing, fostering language development, and the ways language can be used as a force for both liberation and oppression.

The degree's core pedagogical courses are experience-based, encouraging you not only to read and analyze literary works, but also to consider how you would teach these works in engaging ways to help students develop a deeper understanding of literary themes.

You will work closely with our nationally recognized faculty members to learn:

Teaching theories and approaches for middle and high school students
How to integrate content mastery with teaching materials in order to provoke inquiry-based learning
Classroom strategies that are innovative and appropriate for teaching today's students
